MBSR Onlinekurs – Stressbewältigung durch Achtsamkeit (engl.)

The World Health Organization (WHO) describes stress as the greatest threat to health in the 21st century.

MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) was developed in 1979 by Professor Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in the United States at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. By purposefully directing attention and through the development, practice, and stabilization of expanded mindfulness, MBSR promotes a more conscious way of dealing with stress in daily life and helps to reduce health risks and stress symptoms.

“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.” Jon Kabat-Zinn

The course is an 8-week training program that includes meditative exercises in stillness and in motion. These mindfulness practices center mental activity and lead to stress reduction. Usually, blood pressure decreases and the autonomic nervous system calms down.

What are the advantages of an online course?

“Mindfulness is attentive observation, an awareness that is completely free from motives or desires, an observation without any interpretation or distortion.”  Jiddu Krishnamurti

Three types of formal exercises form the core of the program:

  • Traditional seated meditation

  • Gentle and mindfully performed yoga exercises

  • Body Scan, during which the body is systematically “scanned” from the inside with benevolent attention

In all three forms, the breath plays a central role in anchoring attention in the present moment.
